Calvary Episcopal Church

Calvary Episcopal Church, located near The Fishing School’s Wylie Street provides facility space for several Fishing School after-school and summer programs and events.

Center for Neighborhood Enterprise

Founded in 1981 by Robert L. Woodson, Sr., the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise provides effective community and faith-based organizations with training and technical assistance, links them to sources of support, and evaluates their experience for public policy

Center for Student Missions

The center provides a constant flow of volunteers from across the nation to help the students with homework and tutoring in The Fishing School’s after-school program. They also provide chaperone services throughout the Summer Enrichment program.

Citykids Wilderness Project

CityKids offers extraordinary outdoor adventure experiences for little or no cost to eligible children living in the greater Washington D.C. area. CityKids programs take place primarily in the Maryland countryside and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Participants leave the familiar urban environment and discover the outdoors, often for the first time. By learning new skills, meeting new friends, and developing greater self-confidence, our students are better able to succeed in building happy, healthy, and productive lives.

The Citykids organization selects students from The Fishing School annually to travel for a three week outdoor adventure experience. Some of these students are invited to participate multiple years and have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and obtain Summer employment as camp counselors.

Fair Chance

Fair Chance strengthens community-based organizations that serve children and families in Washington, D.C. By partnering with promising nonprofits to build their capacity, Fair Chance strives to ensure that underserved children have access to quality programs that will enable them to follow their dreams.

Greater DC Cares/Mortgage Bankers Association

Greater DC Cares is Greater Washington's leading coordinator of volunteerism and corporate philanthropy, harnessing the energy, skills, goods and talent of the region for nearly 15 years. Greater DC Cares actively engages the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia in unique and rewarding giving experiences that strengthen community organizations and enrich Greater Washington.

Mortgage Bankers Association

Their investment in America's communities includes the time, service and hard work of mortgage bankers in virtually every aspect of real estate finance, in every community.
Employees with Mortgage Bankers Association provide biweekly tutoring to twenty students of The Fishing School.

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP

Known for quality, extraordinary commitment to clients and integrated, relationship-based services, this progressive and entrepreneurial law firm is deeply committed to diversity, to public service, to involvement in the communities they serve and to excellence in all that they do.

Members of the Manatt firm volunteer to provide on site tutoring/mentoring, speakers for several programs and financial support to The Fishing School.

MusicLink Foundation

The MusicLink Foundation provides long-term musical training and opportunities to promising students in financial need across the country. Nominated students who meet MusicLink eligibility criteria are linked with professional music teachers who provide ongoing partial to full scholarship lessons for as long as the child wishes to learn. MusicLink is proud to have reached over 2,100 students from over 40 states, with scholarship donations surpassing $4.8 million by our MusicLink teachers and sponsors.

NBC/Universal Foundation

NBC Universal is committed to making a difference in the communities where they work and live. Active participants in community outreach efforts, special programming and external employee activities like mentoring school age children.

The NBC Foundation sponsored The Fishing School’s JET, Job Education and Training, Program. This program provides life skills training to students ages 14-17.

Operation Hope

Operation Hope is an interactive financial literacy education program for elementary, middle school and high school students and adults.

The Fishing School partners with representatives from Operation Hope to offer their Banking on our Future financial literacy program to students and parents.

Saint John’s Episcopal Church Lafayette Square

Volunteers from historic St. John’s Episcopal Church Lafayette Square, located across from the White House, sponsor and participate in our Female youth Enrichment Program once a month on Saturdays.

Saint Luke’s Catholic Church (McLean, VA)

Youth and members of Saint Luke’s Catholic Church sponsor Thanksgiving baskets with ingredients to prepare a complete family meal. They also donate Easter baskets filled with a variety of treats and a Christmas celebration with wonderful gifts annually for all of The Fishing School students.

Sherwood Recreation Center
The Sherwood Recreation Center is a multi-purpose facility located at 10th and G Streets, NE. Opened on October 8, 2003, the center features a gym, exercise room, locker rooms with showers, multi-purpose rooms and a social hall. A track, basketball courts, and a tennis court are adjacent to the center outside.

The children of The Fishing School participate in recreational activities at the facility on several Fridays during the school year. The center has also provided backpacks and back to school supplies and has been used to host our closing ceremony.

100 Black Men of Greater Washington, DC

During the last decade, 100 Black Men of America Inc. has proven that Blacks can and do excel in corporate and community leadership. The 100 has also proven that the training and support that they give thousands of youth each year has improved their opportunities to stabilize their learning environment, become self supportive and eventually empower them to control their own destinies.

Volunteers from the 100 Black Men organization act as coordinators and speakers for our JET, Job, Education and Training, program. Other members of the organization serve as mentors for some of The Fishing School students.
