Dream Big

Microsoft recently selected The Fishing School as the beneficiary of a technology donation. On Sunday, July 9th, our students, staff, and board were surprised with a check worth $50,000! In addition, TFS received a newly outfitted computer lab, including a Microsoft Surface Hub, a gaming station with virtual reality headsets, and eight new Microsoft Surface Pros!

As Microsoft and their partner organizations, Presidio, New Signature, Perficient, Softchoice, and Champion Solutions Group, unveiled the new technology, TFS students were tasked with the challenge of creating a logo and slogan for Microsoft’s annual Inspire Conference.

The picture above shows the work of one of our students whose slogan for Microsoft’s conference was, “dream big.”

The Fishing School’s afterschool program includes many unique features, such as aligning literacy instruction with hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) activities to help participants apply math and reading concepts, build exposure to the sciences, and develop critical thinking skills.

STEAM is a growing movement toward the future in education and Microsoft’s gift helps The Fishing School leverage new technology that will enable our students to “dream big” and help propel them into promising careers, fulfilling the nation’s need for innovative and skilled leaders!
