Life Skills

The Fishing School (TFS) is a nonprofit serving the Washington, DC communities most in need.  Our mission is to prepare elementary and middle school youth for success in high school and life by improving their academic performance and life skills; and engaging them and their parents in intensive, multi-year, and research-based out-of-school time and parental engagement programs and activities.

TFS programs include Life Skills activities to help build basic school success and social/emotional skills, as recent studies have shown that possessing character traits such as grit, empathy, and perseverance can be significant determinants of future success.

Centered around themes such as school success, perseverance, conflict resolution, good etiquette, and careers, life skill lessons  give students the opportunity to explore their role in the world, empowering them to become better citizens and better people.
