Types of Volunteer Roles
Your professional talents and skills are invaluable to nonprofits like ours. We’re always looking for volunteers to help with special projects such as marketing and outreach, IT planning, and event support. Below are four ways to get involved:
1. Literacy/ STEAM Nights – Annual events for students and families with hands-on activities and displays of student work.
- What: Set up, conduct activities and/or assemble gift bags. In-person.
- Vols Needed: 2 to 6
- Time Commitment: 4:30 to 6:30 pm
- Dates: (please request details)
2. Employee Group Events – One-day, large group activity at program site or headquarters to beautify or organize supplies.
- What: Clean-up, painting, or organizing. In-person. (Groups provide all supplies.)
- Vols Needed: 5 to 20
- Time Commitment: 2 to 8 hours
- Dates: Flexible
3. Fabric Arts Classroom Support – To ensure its success, we invite volunteers to support our Fabric Arts program in classrooms – working side-by-side with students.
- What: Classroom assistant, organize supplies
- Vols Needed: Up to 7 for each after-school program
- Time Commitment: 4 to 5pm, plus a 45-minute virtual orientation
- Days/Dates: Tuesdays or Thursdays between February 17 to May 15, 2025
4. Skilled Volunteers – Skilled volunteers assist the senior team to build capacity for growing and sustaining operations.
- What: Data analysis, legal support, communications, or cost modeling advice. Virtual.
- Vols Needed: 1 to 5
- Time Commitment: 1 to 2 hrs./session
- Dates: Flexible
Safety Screenings & Procedures
The safety of our students is our highest priority. To protect our students and comply with the requirements of our school partners and some of our funders, volunteers who choose to engage with students more than one session must complete the following at least two weeks before an event:
- Provide a copy of a negative TB test which has been taken within the last calendar year
- Provide results from either DCPS or an FBI fingerprinting service
